Problem Tree : Change Sigthed and Targeted

1.Which of the causes are you most interested in trying to change? Why?

I would like to go for economic discrimination to target for immeidieate change. Since, there is fluid political situtation which is deteriorating all the sociodemographic interventions. Currently, we can focus on what the legal document is already stating.
Interim constitution of Nepal has stated health as human right. So, it is states' responsibility to focus on the health needs of the citizens irrespective of economic status of citizen,
So, current social protection frame will enable at a minimum to state on the issue.

2. Which of the causes would be easiest for you to influence with your available time and resources? Why?
Economic discrimination at health facilities can mostly be eradicated as it has strong legal frame suupported by constitution of Nepal. It would not be so easy but ;
-strong media campaign,
-Local political support
- Anti discrimination office policy
- Zero tolerance for discrimination

are the some of the feasible interventions that we can do immediately.

  1. Hey Vishnu:

thanks for the interesting post. its informative (as all the previous ones).

I just wanted to clarify it for myself what is implied by "economic discrimination". do you mean economic discrimination towards people who live with HIV? if so, then how it is evident?

    2. Whether any of the measures you have stated to overcome the economic discrimination are achievable with respect of the resources that you have in the community. (say, how possible it is to develop a strong media campaign, whether there are all respective resources available to develop it, and so on).

  2. Thanks Malika,
I felt a kind of ill equipped while posting this tree. Actaully, I mean to state for discrimination ( not limited to economic).
One example I would like to quote from a newpaper heading:
yes, in the recent year before the strat of PMTCT in our central hospitals, a positive status mother had a baby in a reknowned hospital. Most of the health workers and specially Nsg. staffs called the mother with HIV patient again and agian like " Hey, have u given medicine to that HIV' as if her name was HIV ( for mother).

The next is that; for making a non discriminatory socieity U don't need more resources. People always see what they don't have and undermine what they already have. I feel there is need to strongly use the opportunity we have right now. Just a bit of empathy, a large drop of committment, mixture of political and professional committment and social campaign is enought. Then why should we run after so much resource which is already scarce in our context.
Again, having enough legal frame, just a bit of push is enough to ensure our society free of discrimination with respect to HIV status.

I would like to get comments from other guys.
